The best performance for your websites

This is the Managed WordPress platform at a glance: Fast SSDs and and features like PHP 7 and mod_deflate enable your website to amaze visitors with optimal performance.

  • Full SSD: We store your databases and webspace on high performance SSDs. This results in a performance advantage of more than 50% compared to mechanical hard drives.
  • With PHP 7 + OpCache, WordPress websites run more than twice as fast as with PHP 5.6. PHP 7 impressed us in numerous tests, which is why we have been using a release candidate of PHP 7 with OpCache active that we tested for all Managed WordPress packages from day one. With the release of the final version of PHP 7, we automatically and seamlessly switched your websites to this version, providing an additional performance improvement for your website.
  • 1&1 CDN speeds up loading for your online content such as images or JavaScript files to ensure shorter loading times even with the very high traffic that can result from seasonal promotions or marketing campaigns.

Maximum security for your websites

We automatically protect your website in the background using DDoS protection based on the high-performance Nginx open-source web server, smart user right adjustments and adapted firewall rules.

    Dear 1and 1,

I am write this email to inform you that my domain name naklok.com can’t add plugin. Why it can’t add plugin?

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi vannai,

seems like you switched to an other application in the mean time? I can see that you are not using Managed WordPress anymore.

Generally, you cannot add plugins in ManagedWordPress manually. There is a collection of plugins, reviewed and well-chosen by our experts, you can add inside of ManagedWordPress.

For more informations, please follow the link to our ManagedWordPress FAQ: https://community.1and1.com/managed-wordpress-faq/

      Kind regards,

  2. Anthony says:

My Managed WordPress says that various Plugins have been pre-installed by WordPress: are these the Plugins that have a blue vertical line down the left hand side?

I note that Contact 7 requires me to me to install some code on to my wp-admin site. Do the other pre-installed Plugins also require the installsion of code by me or are they running automatically?

    Thanks.

  3. He contratado el servicio de WordPress para actualizar la Página Web que tenía con ustedes y al hacerlo mi Página Web ha desaparecido. Me gustaría saber como puedo recuperarla y que vuelva a estar como estaba anteriormente.
    Un saludo.

I’m a student and new to the world of web development.
Can I develop an online store using WordPress? A friend was talking about woocommerce works with WordPress for online store. What’s this? How can I do it? Where can I do it?

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Rehman,

WooCommerce is a plugin for WordPress. You can install it through WordPress dashboard. You can use the integrated WordPress catalogue or upload it as a zip file. Please reference the following article for more information: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/installing-uninstalling-woocommerce/

  5. Joanna says:

You managed WP hosting guarantees that it will be using the latest WP version yet it is out of date, I cannot use the 2017 theme because it requires 4.7 and it says I am using 4.6.1

Not happy. Having problems after problems with 1&1

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Joanna,

at the moment our colleagues are testing if everythings works fine with 4.7 on our servers. If the tests are done, they will rollout the 4.7 update to Managed WordPress as soon as possible.

      Kind regards,
      Michael, 1&1

  6. Yas says:

I have a manged wordpress account.
I am not able to put robots.txt into the website root folder which is named as “app*********” where the .htaccess file is located. It says permission denied and I am not allowed to change the permissions for the app directory.

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Yas,

the Managed WordPress folders have special owner permissions which do not allow you to upload files into it.

As an alternative you can use a virtual robots.txt plugin for WordPress like this one: https://wordpress.org/plugins-wp/virtual-robotstxt-littlebizzy/

      Regards,
      Michael, 1&1

  7. Lisa Schwarz says:

How can I remove 1&1 from my website (for sure I will still host with you, but I want you from my backend (as it seems since the last update some things broke, like to preview of unpublished articles anymore etc.))?

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Lisa,

sorry for the issues caused by our last Managed update.

If you want to have the control over the updates, you can simply switch from managed mode into standard mode. Here you can find a manual for the German 1&1 Control Center: http://hilfe-center.1und1.de/hosting/1und1-webhosting-c10085285/websites-erstellen-und-bearbeiten-c10082635/app-center-c10082695/von-managed-wordpress-und-safe-mode-zu-standard-wechseln-a10795256.html

  8. New user says:

Hi, I’ve just set up a website using your managed WordPress package but the domain name only works with apps-1and1.net at the end of it – the standard domain name just directs to your holding page. I guess I’m missing the obvious but how do I get the normal domain I purchased to work without having your extension at the end? Thanks

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi,

after domain registration it might take some time before you can chose it for your Managed app. Should work now, please try again.

      Best regards,
      Michael, 1&1

  9. Robert says:

Hi, can I turn off the auto update WordPress feature and still have you manage my site? I’d want to make sure my plugins are compatible first before applying a WP update. Thanks.

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Robert,

sorry, we don’t support that kind of combination. If you use Managed WordPress, automatic updates is always included.

      Regards,
      Michael, 1&1

  10. Robert says:

I have activated the SSL on my domain. I have a manged WordPress on it. I understand that I cannot edit the .htaccess file.

How can I activate a permanent 301 redirect from http to https on a managed WordPress site?

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Robert,

activating the SSL option on Managed WordPress forces http automatically to https by redirecting via 301. If this is not working in your case, please send an e-mail to help@1and1.com with your domain name and we will have a look at it.

      Best regards,
      Michael, 1&1

    wp_enqueue_style(‘custom_css’, get_template_directory_uri().”/templates/custom-css.php”, false, “”, “all”);
So in my index.html you have this line:

Problem is that the htaccess file denies such execution of php files. How can I change the htacess file or get rid of this problem?

    1. Frank says:

So in my index.html you have this line:

    2. 1and1help says:

      Hi Frank,

you might consider switching from Managed to Standard mode. In Managed WordPress you are not allowed to get any writing access to these files.

    Hi
I have just changed my site ‘Test’ techwearco.com from managed to standard & everything seemed to go fine. However when I click on my admin or website link all I get is a men at work sign?

    1. 1and1help says:

we would like to have a deeper look into this subject. If the issue persists, please send us an e-mail with more details to help@1and1.com.

  15. Kevin Neal says:

Hi I see that you have special permissions on htaccess, is there a way to override this

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Kevin,

if you need access to the .htaccess, our kind of Managed WordPress might be not for you.

You can access the .htaccess exclusively in the Standard WordPress mode. So you might switch your installation to “Standard”. Here we describe you how to manage this: https://help.1and1.com/hosting-c37630/website-building-tools-c85146/wordpress-c85192/switch-managed-wordpress-to-standard-mode-a792802.html

  16. Tina says:

I was wondering why I was having so much trouble installing a caching plugin (both wp super cache or wp total cache), I’m guessing it’s because of OpCache. I am still able to use another caching plugin, and if not are there options for me to choose how my site is cached?
    Many thanks!
    Tina

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Tina,
yes that should be possible. What exactly happens, when you try to use wpcache? I think it woul be good if we can have a deeper look. Please send us an email regarding this to help@1and1.com and maybe you can attach some screenshots?

      Thanks

cuantos temas trae wordpress por defecto? y alguien me recomienda alguna forma gratuita de encontrar temas, estoy buscando crear una pagina de informacion acerca de hoteles…

  18. Stephanie says:

Hi, the www of my domain name disappear after every update…
So I manually change the wp-config file to add it back. But the next update rewrites the file and erases the www.
I called for help, they said it’s ok but it’s not.
It happened again 2 days ago, and last night. And it seems no one can correct that problem.
Do you have an idea how to solve the problem ?
    Thank you

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Stephanie,

as I can see in our system, our customer service was already able to give you all necessary informations.

To ensure that the www. address still works after WordPress updates, you might consider to change your installation into a standard version.

      Best regards,
      Michael, 1&1

  19. Anna says:

Is there even a reason you advertise your managed wordpress plan if at any difficulty your customers have you suggest that they switch to a standard plan instead? Just wondering. What’s the advantage with hosting a managed wordpress with 1&1? Would really appreciate answers. Thank you.

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Anna,

most of the comments you can read here are connected to

      a) an older version of the Managed mode, called “Safe Mode”. This was a mode with less functionality, espacially when it comes to SSL encryption.

      b) people want to edit core files of WordPress or the source code of themes and plugins. This is something we can’t offer for Managed mode due to security and stability reasons.

But if you simply want to use WordPress to publish content and to use a neat out-of-the-box theme, Managed WordPress is a good thing. 🙂

      Best regards,
      Michael, 1&1

  20. karl says:

hiya yeah I’m in process of building my site and noticed the spelling in the search is wrong how can I change it

    its got homelessnessawear.org.uk

  21. 1and1help says:

    Hi karl,

sorry but I don’t know what you are referring to. I couldnt find this domain names in our systems.

What do you mean with “in the search”? When you google your website?

    Best regards,
    Michael, 1&1

  22. Steph says:

    Hi

When I select edit wordpress website from 1and1 control, it has a redirect message come up and a dialog box asking for authentication!!

Cant get in to WordPress at all?

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Steph,

do you mean the blue login page with the 1&1 logo in the left top corner? This is our new labeled and customized WordPress login page.

If you want to have the default WordPress login, you can deactivate our customization by deactivating the 1&1 Assistant Plugin in your WordPress dashboard.

      Best regards,
      Michael, 1&1

  23. Zsolt says:

    Hi There,

Just wondering if there is any chance using apple pay under managed wordpress site?

According to the stripe description a “.well-known” folder needs to be created and a file needs to be there

    https://stripe.com/docs/stripe-js/elements/payment-request-button#verifying-your-domain-with-apple-pay

Is it possible to carry out or it can be managed only if I would go back to standard install?

    Thanks for your answer.
    Zsolt

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Zsolt,

you should be able to create this “/.well-known/” folder in your Managed WordPress installation. Go to your webspace using SFTP (with the FTP client of your choice). Search for the application folder, which should look like this: “app123456789” Go in their and try to create or upload the /.well-known/ folder there with the downloaded file by Stripe.

      Best regards,
      Michael, 1&1

      1. Zsolt says:

Thanks Michael but I am not able to create or copy anything (folder or single file) in the root folder that is the app123456789 you mentioned.
Do you think this is an issue or should work that way, I mean is it part of the managed wordpress policy? Not to be able to write or modify anything in the root? In a way it could make sense.

I used the WinSCP with the 1&1 recommendation but I was getting the “permission denied” message. I’ve got no problem when I go deeper in the folder structure.

        Could you advise, please?

        Regards,
        Zsolt

        1. 1and1help says:

It’s meant by design that you don’t have more permissions to the Managed WordPress core data on the webspace. So in this case it seems to be not possible to create the file there.

The only other way here would be changing your Managed WordPress to a standard WordPress installation. Here we explain how to do it: https://help.1and1.com/hosting-c37630/website-building-tools-c85146/wordpress-c85192/switch-managed-wordpress-to-standard-mode-a792802.html

Afterwards you can access every subfolder without any limitations. Be aware that changing the WordPress mode is a one-way-ticket: There is no way to go back to Managed mode for this installation afterwards!

          Best,
          Michael, 1&1

  24. Zsolt says:

Thanks Michael for your help and advice.

    Regards,
    Zsolt

  28. hi.
from what i gather i have activated my SSL certificate which when you put the site in the browser starting https shows the lock fine, but if i use either http or www. it shows as an insecure site and the lock is not showing.
I have tried to find where to change this so http and www traffic is transported to the https but which ever instructions of yours i bring up doesn’t relate to whats showing on the site.
please can you either set it for me of tell me how, as i cant change it on word press as its a managed site.

    kind regards

We took care of this for you. Your website is now forcing to load your content with https.

  29. Alan says:

I haveva Managed WordPress and I can’t find any information or access to Backups. Can you point me in the right direction please?

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Alan,

We are doing automatic backups in the background so if something breaks in our data centers, we are able to restore this.

If you want to be in control of own backups, which you want to store e.g. on an external dervice, you might want to use a backup plugin for WordPress.

We can’t recommend you one in particular. I personally made good experiences with the plugin Updraft Plus: https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/ Please be aware that using a 3rd party plugin is always at your own risk, we can’t give any guarantees about it.

      Best regards,
      Michael, 1&1
