        1. 1and1help says:

          Hi Collet,

sorry, my french is not good enough to help you with your request. But I hope you can read this and it helps you anyway.

In your WordPress destination was a index file stored which is normally connected to the “/logs” folder. I don’t know why it was stored there. I removed it now. Now you will get a database connection error. This is because you didn’t write down the correct DB_Host name in the wp-config.php. Please look this server name up in the MySQL section of your Control Panel and add it to the wp-config.php. Then everything should run like expected.

          Best regards,
          Michael, 1&1

I purchased a 1&1 domain and changed the settings on WordPress to use the 1&1 as a my primary domain — and WP have let me know I need to change my DNS settings.
They emailed me saying they’re currently set to:
And need to be changed to:
But I haven’t been able to work out how to do that. If you could help me that would be great thank you

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Clare,

first you would have to disconnect your domain from the current Managed WordPress installation in your 1&1 App Center. For disconnecting simply change the domain of your Managed WordPress to a different one. (Button “Change domain”).

After this is done, go to the “Domain Center” in your 1&1 Control Panel and follow these steps:

  9. edgar says:

How can i import my old database to the managed wordpress site? I can’t see the database in the details. Thanks!

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi edgar,

in Managed mode you don’t have access to the MySQL database. To import your old data, you would have to export your old articles and pages from your old installation in a XML file and import it via Importer plugin to the new Managed installation.

If your old installation does not exist anymore and you only have the old raw data on your disk, you might consider to switch to a Standard installation. As soon as you changed that, you will have access to your new database. Read more:

I need to setup a WordPress MU installation for educational purposes. When I get to the point of updating the .htaccess file it does not give me permission to edit/delete it and replace it with a new one.

    Please advise.

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Stuart,
to get writable access to the .htaccess file, you need to switch your WordPress App to Standard Mode. In Managed Mode the file is restricted.

I believe I followed all the steps correctly and connected the domain. However upon visiting the site it returns a 404 error. I have no way of viewing the homepage. Please look into this and contact me via email for a solution.

    1. 1and1help says:

in the meantime I can open the frontpage of your website without any errors. Howere, I can still see error 404s (page not found) on sub-pages. That seems to happen simply because the linked page does not exist yet.

Everythings fine now from your point of view?

Seems like our security system blacklisted you for a while because of suspicious access attempts.

This can happen if you e.g.

      a) try to access the site with a wrong password many times in a row
      b) try to access your webspace with several and too many simultaneous connections via ssh, sftp and https

The blacklisting will vanish after a few minutes. Then you should be able to access your site again.

I did create a new SFTP account yesterday and uploaded a new sub site to my web space. its been like this for the last hour since I noticed it. Not very impressed or happy right now!

    1. 1and1help says:

This error can occur when you try to access the webspace via SSH (SFTP is FTP over SSH) too many times in a very short period of time. Or you try to access it with the wrong password too often in a short time frame.

Might happen as well when you try to access with your SFTP client with too many simultanious SFTP connections. Please reduce this number to 1 or 2.

This should help to avoid this error messages in the future.

      Best regards,
      Michael, 1&1
