The Joomla! Community released the latest version of the content management system. Version 3.4 mainly introduces new features and decouples old ones for increased performance – like the weblink component.
This is what Viktor Vogel from the Joomla! PLT has to say about Version 3.4.
The Production Leadership Team is happy to be able to release a stable version of Joomla! 3.4 after many tests and lots of participation from the community. More than 2,000 commits and 1,000 bug fixes show the great commitment of the developer community behind the project. The first step to making the core lighter has been taken with this version by removing com_weblinks. We feel certain that this release is the next step into a successful future.
Joomla! 3.4 Highlights
- Improved frontend module editing
- Integration of Google reCAPTCHA and PHP Composer into the system’s core
- Decoupling com_weblinks for a lighter core
- Cleaned up admin area

Updating Free Mode or Manual Installations to Joomla! 3.4
If you have Joomla! installed in Free Mode or manually, you have to update your installation on your own. Your installation’s admin area should already show a note telling you that a new version is available. This note contains a button leading you directly to the update page.
If this note is not shown, you should be able to search for a new update by clicking Components -> Joomla! Update.
The update page informs you once more about all the details regarding the update.
You can choose the installation method with the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page. We recommend to use the default version. After another confirmation, your Joomla! installation should be updated to version 3.4.
