I have a Wix website. I would like to create a subdomain in Wix and map that to a 1&1 registered domain where I host my WordPress blog. How can I do that? Can you point me in the right direction?

  2. 1and1help says:

    Hi Isaac,

you can edit the dns settings for subdomains as well in your domain settings in Control Panel. Point the nameservers to Wix like we describe it here: http://help.1and1.com/domains-c36931/manage-domains-c79822/dns-c37586/point-a-domain-to-wixcom-a792765.html

      Hi Michael,

      Thanks for pointing the way.

I have set my subdomain in Wix with its CNAME pointing to the domain hosted at 1&1. Then in 1&1 DNS settings, I edited the NAMESERVERS to use Wix’s.

At the moment, I still cannot see the site online. I am not sure if the settings I have done is correct.

Did I miss out something? I have uninstalled the WordPress with my 1&1 domain though. Shall I install it back to see if the site appears online? Hope you can help.

      Isaac

    Hi Isaac,

I can’t see the use case for pointing from a Wix subdomain to your 1&1 domain / WordPress installation. I think I misunderstood your initial question because of that, sorry. In this case you shouldn’t change your 1&1 nameservers into Wix. So you might reset this setting and test it again with a CNAME entry at Wix and with the default 1&1 nameservers on our side.

    Best,
    Michael, 1&1

I want to build a wordpress website .
Should buy a normal web hosting or i need wordpress Hosting .
and what’s the difference between them .

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi,

in the Managed WP tariffs you can use one or more Managed WordPress installations for free. See the advantages of Managed WordPress here: https://community.1and1.com/managed-wordpress/

In the normal web hosting packages you have no Managed WordPress included (additional buy is possible), but you can still install WordPress as a standard application with our 1 click App Center.

    Hi there!

I want to point my new domain to a blogger subdomain site, but there is no such service. How can I do that? Can you point me in the right direction?

    Thanks in advance!

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Lucho,

true- Blogger is not yet on this list of external websites.

But you can connect it via DNS though. There is great how-to video by a user on YouTube which should help you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QbK40Kh7RU

Please help i am unable to setup my core php base app. i am unable to figure out in which folder do i need to upload my website before installing and how it will be displayed.
    I am using filezilla
if any body have relevant video please share.

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Ismail,

if you downloaded your application from somewhere, it should already have a main folder and files. You can upload these with FileZilla on your webspace using SFTP. Afterwards you connect your domain with the main folder of the application.

How to use SFTP with FileZilla: https://help.1and1.com/hosting-c37630/webspace-and-access-c85098/ftp-c37631/transfer-files-with-filezilla-via-sftp-a792774.html

  7. My main domain is linked to other name servers not 1&1 and in the same time I want to link one of the subdomains to another name server, It is possible?
I tried but find hat if I point my main domain to other name servers than 1&1 as DNS1 I can not point the subdomain to another one as DNS2.
I am write or there is some thing i missed.

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Mohamed,

as soon as you are using an external nameserver for the main domain, the configuration of the subdomains can only be handled on this external nameserver system. So you have to go to this provider and change the settings for the subdomain on their systems.

      Best regards,
      Michael, 1&1

Hi I Have a domain but I don’t know how to connect to my blogspot website can you help me ?

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Viet,

to connect your Blogger site to your 1&1 domain, you have to create 2 specific subdomains in our system and redirect them to the blogger URLs via CNAME, like Google describes it here:
      https://support.google.com/blogger/answer/1233387?hl=en&ref_topic=6321959

Please ignore the addional steps 9 and 10, they are not working with our systems. But the CNAME method should do the trick anyway 🙂

How to create sub-domains at 1&1:
      https://help.1and1.com/domains-c36931/manage-domains-c79822/subdomains-c37588/create-a-subdomain-a594923.html

I want to point my domain to a static HTML site – not on WIX – just a standard HTML site – not WP, or Weebly – just good old HTML.

Usually – I’d need to set up file folders – but not sure how on 1and1

  10. Skyler says:

I have my wix website and am trying to set up email addresses with 1&1. Currently I can’t receive emails with doing this. How can I fix this?
    Thanks,
    -Skyler

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Skyler,

I guess your domain’s nameserver are pointing to the wix.com systems, right? In this case Wix should assist you with adding our mailserver DNS into their system.

You need the so-called MX records of 1&1 for this:

      mx00.1and1.com
      mx01.1and1.com

This article should help you: https://support.wix.com/en/article/tutorial-connecting-a-mailbox-hosted-elsewhere-general

Important: You need a Premium plan at Wix to do that.

      Best regards,
      Michael, 1&1

I’m trying to connect my domain name to my smugmug account. I used to be able to do this with GoDaddy, but am unable to do so with 1 and 1. Any help would be appreciated 🙂

  12. Hi,

My domain is with godaddy, and both my hosting and email service were with 1&1.

Now, I’m moving ONLY the website to wix but want the email to be on 1&1.

I’m having trouble figuring out how to set the DNS / MX settings.

I’m now using the wix nameservers on both godaddy and 1&1. i’ve not changed the mx records so they still point to 1&1.

    Should this be enough?

    Thanks,
    Nikhil

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Nikhil,

generally you have to add our MX Records into the Wix system. In your case it looks like this was already done. The dns settings look good now and you should be able to use our mail services like you were used to all the time. 🙂

      Best regards,
      Michael, 1&1

  13. Sebastian says:

Hi there. i’ve just connect an external domain in my 1&1. in my domains i’ve the website active, but in the system domains i’ve 2 domins active, why is that? and most curious i’ve tried to install woocommerce and it says the file already exists, but i don’t see it. can anybody help me, please?
    Thanks!!

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Sebastian,

so you want to change the domain to your existing Managed WordPress installation?

You should be able to do this with the “Change Domain” option in the 1&1 App Center: https://community.1and1.com/connect-domain-to-managed-wordpress/

      Best regards,
      Michael, 1&1

      1. Sebastian says:

Thank you Michael; i think i express myself wrong. First of all i would like to know why in “My Domains” appears this:

        electrolinea.apps-1and1.com
        System Domain Webspace (Contract 69896994)
        /.Use Your Domain

        s725844481.onlinehome.us
        System Domain Webspace (Contract 69896994)
        /.Use Your Domain

Why appears 2 domins with the same number contract?
(Do you have a chat support?)
        Thank you again!

        1. 1and1help says:

          Hi Sebastian,

we don’t have chat support for this product yet, sorry.

These system domains are given with the contact without any additional costs. Feel free to use them to test things before you go live with a certain domain name.

Maybe it’s for the best to contact our support team and dig deeper into this case with them:

          https://contact.1and1.com

          Best regards,

  14. I have my DNS set up with 1 and 1.
I have updated the entries to point the email to Office 365.
I am now setting the website in WIX.
How can I point to the Website, whilst keeping the email pointing to Office 365?
    Please advise
    thanks

    1. 1and1help says:

      Hi Philippe,

if Wix allows you to simply point to their server using the IP address (so called “A Record”), you should prefer this method.

With changing the main nameservers completely on the other hand, you might lose your Office 365 configuration.

      Best regards,
      Michael, 1&1
